Do I do visitations? attend conferences? respond to email?
Sometimes. Possibly. Yes.
I know there are authors and illustrators who crisscross the country visiting schools, signing books, and attending conferences, but if you read my "About the Author" page, you know that being a writer is only a small part of my life. Also, I am retired, along with my husband, and we likely are going to be traveling. Therefore, I am, often, not available for such activities.
Recent visitations have included the Oneida Indian Nation's Children and Elders Center, a middle school north of Albany, New York, and SUNY Cortland's DATE (Discussions About the Teaching of English) Conference. In addition, I was the readergirlz.com author of the month for November (focusing on Sweetgrass Basket) and communicated with participating readers via the internet from New Zealand where I was visiting family.
So, yes, I am willing to undertake such activities. It just depends.
I do try to check my email regularly, even when I am traveling. However, responding in a timely manner is not always easy.
